Is It Okay To Buy Cosplay Costumes?
Yes, of course, it is. The main reason we all cosplay is fun. Everyone has their style and their own way of cosplaying. If for you that means to buy ready-made costumes, then that’s cool. Although, we’re fans of making the costumes ourselves, for reasons that we’ll discuss later on.
That being said, there is no rule of cosplay that forbids buying full costumes. And, it’s down to the cosplayer’s preference, because, at the end of the day, we’re all just doing this for fun.
Is It Okay To Buy Cosplay Costumes & Attend Events?
Still yes!
Events are full of people that just want to have fun, exploring costumes, meeting different characters, etc.
Do you think they’ll care if you wear a costume that you bought? Nope. It just adds to the atmosphere.
However, what you should avoid is telling people that you made a costume that you bought. That’s what many cosplayers would consider cheating.
Is Making Cosplay Outfits Fun?
Yes! Making cosplay outfits yourself is very fun, and one of the core reasons why many of us cosplay. Additionally, it also allows you to customize your characters to a further extent which is also why many cosplayers prefer it.
Often, making your cosplay outfits with friends isn’t just fun, but it also adds to the friendship.
However, if you feel like making cosplay outfits is not necessarily your thing, then that’s cool as well.
At the end of the day, it’s all about fun, so just do what you prefer most.
The Best Of Both Worlds
We also wanted to introduce you to a way you can get the best of both worlds.
By, purchasing the parts you don’t want to make yourself, and making the ones you do like making. The reason this works so well is that you won’t have to spend as much time on it, but can still enjoy the making part.
Plus, you can also often create cool combinations of Characters i.e hybrid costumes which we’ll discuss in a moment.
But, in general, this allows you to get the best of both worlds which is pretty sweet.
Hybrid Costumes
Hybrid costumes are combinations of characters from two different movies, anime shows, video games, etc.
With these types of costumes, you can be as random as you’d like which gives you a great level of customization. For example, you could have a Darth Vader suit with a Harley Quinn head. Whatever, your imagination suggests, you can make it as a costume.
You can also customize the characters to your liking. That’s possible too.
