2021 marks the 55th anniversary of the original Star Trek.
And Creation Entertainment is celebrating this milestone with the 55-Year Mission Tour Las Vegas Convention, which will take place live at the Rio Suites Hotel and Casino on August 11-15, 2021.
Indeed, the famed Star Trek convention is once again happening in Las Vegas. Apart from the hundreds of Trekkie cosplayers bound to descend upon the convention, the 55-Year Mission Tour has a lot more in store. For starters, there will be over a hundred celebrity guests present at the convention. This will include the likes of William Shatner, Sonequa Martin-Green, George Takei, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn and Jeri Ryan. 2021 is not only Shatner and the late Leonard Nimoy’s 90th birthday year, it is also the 100th birthday of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, so there will be corresponding honors for these milestones as well.
In fact, Roddenberry will be honored by a special performance from the Nevada Pops Orchestra.
Some former Star Trek cast members with singing chops will reportedly be performing alongside the orchestra as well. Meanwhile, Shatner himself will be narrating a special presentation while recalling key moments with some fellow cast members. There will also be cosplay contests, fantastic displays, photo and autograph packages, merchandise, and tons of surprises for convention goers. These are just some of the attractions in store for those who will be attending the 55-Year Mission Tour at the Rio in Las Vegas this coming August. Tickets are moving fast, and you can secure yours at Creation Entertainment’s official website.
If you’re planning on going, you should know that the Rio is located on the corner of Flamingo Rd. and the famed Vegas Strip.
And at the very heart of the city, it can get very crowded. Near the Rio, prominent Vegas poker rooms in casinos like the Bellagio, MGM Grand, Aria, and the Venetian have recently resumed full-capacity operations. As this part of the city is home to the most luxurious high-stakes poker rooms on the Vegas Strip, daily tournaments are back in full swing as well. This is the type of lively and potentially crowded situation that you can expect in the heart of Vegas, and it will likely be the case during the aforementioned convention dates. Keep this in mind whether you’re staying in Vegas for just a couple days or throughout the convention week. Furthermore, late August is also around the time when International Cosplay Day is celebrated around the world. This means that there will be more near-future opportunities to model whatever Star Trek cosplay you come up with for the 55-Year Mission Tour – not just in Nevada but in nearby California as well.
While 2020 has been rather bleak for live events to say the least, it seems that live cosplay is on the way to getting back on its feet. Whether you’re a hardcore Trekkie or just someone who loves sci-fi, the 55-Year Mission Tour is definitely worth checking out.
