Cosplay has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a niche hobby. Today not only are there professional cosplayers that make a pretty decent living dressing up as video game characters, but cosplay has gone mainstream. So, not only is there a much larger fanbase but the quality of costumes and the people who do this for a living have improved considerably.
Many cosplay fans are also videogame fans which explains why there are so many more people dressing up as video game characters. Below are six great video game characters you might want to consider for your next cosplay act.
Altair – Assassin’s Creed
The mysterious Altair (protagonist) from the Assassin’s Creed series does not get enough attention in our opinion from the Cosplay community.
The costume is pretty easy to pull off. Props like the dagger and a weaponized bracelet aren’t hard to find, making it a cosplay character that most people can pull off on a budget.
Dark Link – The Legend of Zelda
Dressing up as the badass Dark Link is admittedly a little challenging. But get it right, and you will draw a lot of attention.
Unlike Altair, you’ll need to be creative here, primarily if you’re relying on thrift stores for your costume and props. Alternatively, we found some equivalently badass Dark Link costumes being sold online.
Jin Kazama – Tekken
He is one of the most iconic characters, but you need abs and preferably wings to pull it off.
The tattoos will also require a bit of creativity. You could opt for temporary tattoos which may not be exact replicas, but they get the job done.
Sam Fisher – Splinter Cell
Sam Fisher’s costume has remained pretty much the same through each console generation with the Splinter Cell series.
Dressing up as Sam fisher is easy. The challenge is finding those night-vision goggles, which don’t have to be real. You might also want to spend some time in the gym so that the costume highlights your hard work!
Pyramid Head(s) – Silent Hill
Those pyramid heads have scared the hell out of players across the world; they also make for a badass cosplay costume.
Surprisingly, it isn’t a very popular Halloween costume, and most people overlook these characters at cosplay events.
The pyramid heads are cosplay characters that are easy to pull off. Those large pyramids stuck to their heads can be made from cardboard or purchased online.
Lara Croft – Tomb Raider
Sure, you need to have a decent pair to pull off cosplay Lara Croft, but that’s just the beginning.
Being well stacked is only going to get you so far, you need good shorts, the top, the props, and hairstyle. Although, you don’t always have to be super-accurate.
Lara Croft has been quite a popular character chosen by many cosplayers.
If you want to pull off Lara Croft, our suggestion is just to do it the way you like. Accuracy isn’t everything, so don’t get too caught up in it!
