When is International Cosplay Day? Everything You Need To Know.

When is International Cosplay Day?

Every year during August, cosplayers come together and celebrate international cosplay day all over the world. There isn’t a set day, as it changes every year. For example, this year it was on the 29th of august, whereas last year it was on the 27th of August.

So, usually, it’s towards the end of August. As this year’s international cosplay day has already been celebrated, you’ll have a long time to prepare for next year’s event. That being said, the international cosplay day is not the only day where you can dress up as your favorite movie or TV show character.

All over the world, there are also Comic-Con events which I am sure you have heard of. At Comic-Con events there is also usually a lot of cosplaying going on, so that’s another opportunity there.

Some cities that have comic cons include New York, London, and Florida.

There are quite a few, so if you do some research you might be able to find one close to you. 

Where Did Cosplay Originate?

So, where did this interesting trend start? 

The cosplay trend itself has grown and developed over the years, but it all started in 1984. The founder of Studio Hard, a man named Nobuyuki Takahashi visited the WorldCon in Los Angeles where he was impressed with the masquerade. He then coined the term “kosupere” in Japanese, from which the term cosplay then developed.

From there, the trend started rapidly growing in both Japan and the US as more people started developing an interest in cosplay.

It’s interesting to see, how such a popular hobby of millions of people around the world, has developed from one man taking an interest at an event. 

Why Do People Cosplay Today?

People Cosplay because it’s fun to dress up as their favorite movie or TV show characters. Plus, it’s always interesting to experience different types of costumes and how they make you feel.

Some cosplayers report having increased confidence in certain types of costumes. It’s a hobby, just like some people like to collect certain cards or stickers.

Cosplayers enjoy the entire process from creating their costumes to wearing it. And, there is also a great community around it, as it’s always interesting to see what characters other people dress up as.

At Cosplay events like international cosplay day, you’ll see such a wide variety of characters that you normally would never get to experience which is why it’s so special. 

Can You Visit Events Without a Cosplay Outfit?

It doesn’t have to be serious at all. In fact, you don’t need any type of outfit at all to visit events. 

Some people just like to go, so that they can see what outfits others have. Others just like to wear maybe something smaller like a mask or something of that nature.

That being said, you will also find some truly fascinating cosplayers at events like Comic-con or on international cosplay day.
